  1. Throughout the Summer a whole load of Sky Rides are being held throughout Kent and especially in the Sevenoaks District.
Dates for local rides are on the Forum Web site at http://www.sevenoaks-cycleforum.org.uk/diary.htm More information will be posted as it becomes availiable.

Come and enjoy a bike ride.

  2. Join in and celebrate cycling in 2012 with Sky Ride

Local people are invited to get on their bikes to join in a celebration of cycling with their local Sky Ride.

Sky Ride is a national campaign from Sky and British Cycling created to inspire and help everyone whatever their age or ability to get on their bikes and have fun. A programme of free rides starts locally in May with routes throughout Sevenoaks District to promote cycling and encourage the public to explore their area. Rides fall into four categories, Ride Easy, Ride Steady, Ride Well and Ride Strong.

The first two rides begin on 27 May and will entail a leisurely trip across the Darent Valley, starting from the Pied Bull public house in Farningham leaving at 10am and 2pm. This route is steeped in history and sights with two castles, a Roman Villa, Victorian Viaduct, Riverside stop and Visitors’ Centre, all in six miles. These are Ride Steady excursions and are expected to last two hours with one-and-a-half hours cycling. Places are limited to approximately 30 people per ride and are expected to fill up quickly so interested residents are advised to book a place on the 'Ride the Darent Valley' route as soon as possible.

Cllr Pat Bosley, the Council's Cabinet member for Community Wellbeing, says:

For details of future rides, registration and further information visit: www.goskyride.com and search for Darent Valley on the Ride Finder or phone 01732 227000

The rides will be fun, friendly and best of all, completely free. These are headed by a British Cycling trained ride leader who will be there to support riders along the way, whatever their age or ability.

A total of ten rides are planned across Sevenoaks District and all levels of experience will be catered for with future rides being run throughout August and September. Sky Rides in Sevenoaks District are being co-ordinated by Sevenoaks District Council as part of the legacy of the Paralympic Games Road Cycling Event being held in the District in September.
