Planning Enforcement Officer (Career Grade)

    This is a key role which supports the Team Manager in driving change, continuous improvement, efficiency and effectiveness in all aspects of process, service delivery and customer interface.

    The Role

    Welcome to our Planning Enforcement team! Last year we investigated more than 500 new reports of alleged breaches of planning control. We are a busy and dedicated team providing a critical role within the Planning team and wider Council.

    We are looking for an innovative and proactive person to join our team to support the delivery of our service in accordance with our vision.

    In this role you will be able to contribute to the work of an excellent Enforcement service through commitment, enthusiasm, and loyalty. You will need to be a positive role model for the service and your colleagues and you will be able to inspire trust by demonstrating honesty and integrity.

    You will be able to demonstrate how you take initiative to solve problems and suggest solutions.

    As a committed team player you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interacting with the public is an important part of the role and therefore you must be dedicated to providing high quality customer service for our wide range of customers.

    Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

    • A Levels or equivalent level of education
    • Effective negotiation skills
    • Proven experience of investigative work in a planning environment

    For appointment to the higher end of the career grade:

    • Degree in Town Planning or relevant associate discipline
    • Significant experience of inspections and investigations into breaches of planning control and be able to demonstrate a track record of making appropriate recommendations and decisions on the course of action
    • Previous experience of mentoring junior colleagues
