  1. Edenbridge resident Christopher Slack was announced as the winner at last Thursday's prestigious North West Kent Crime Prevention Panel Community Safety Awards, with four other residents and one community group from the District scooping up the runners up places.

The ninth annual awards received a record number of nominations from within the Sevenoaks District, and Christopher Slack from Marlpit Hill, Edenbridge is the first person from the District to hold the top prize.

Christopher recently retired as a long-term member and leader of his local Neighbourhood Watch and was chosen as the winner for his dedication and commitment within the community. He has worked closely with the police and Edenbridge Warden to introduce new schemes to help protect residents’ property and raise awareness of community safety issues.

Runners up Geoff Parsons and Cllr Angela George from Swanley, the Swanley White Oak Action Group and Vera Kirkham and Robin Vining from West Kingsdown also collected certificates from the District’s most senior police officer, Chief Inspector Peter Steenhuis.

The Crime Prevention Panel is made up of volunteers who attend events throughout the Sevenoaks District and the Dartford and Gravesham Boroughs. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call the District Council on 01732 227000.

Cllr Elaine Brackenthe Council’s Cabinet Member for community safety, says:
The awards were held at the Sevenoaks District Council offices on 26 April and were presented by Chief Inspector Peter Steenhuis.
