  1. Young footballers from Sundridge and surrounds are set to benefit from new facilities thanks to a £2,750 grant from the District Council’s Big Community Fund.

Cllr Robert Piper, who represents Brasted, Chevening and Sundridge, secured the funding to develop football facilities especially for young children at Sundridge Recreation Ground.

Sundridge Parish Council is proposing to create a new dedicated playing area for younger boy and girl footballers at a total cost of £5,750. Local football club Chipstead FC, has indicated that it will be setting up new under 7s and under 9s teams as a way of introducing more young people to football activities and with help from the community fund, they could well produce the next England captain!

Although Sundridge Recreation Ground has two full-sized football pitches used frequently by older junior, senior and veteran teams however, young children under the age of 10 have previously been unable to partake in the team sport due to regulations stating that younger players must play on smaller pitches.

The funding granted by the District Council along with funding from the Parish Council, will be used to clear and level a derelict play area, so that they can then seed the site for the new ground. Additional security measures will also be added to monitor the area, helping to ensure the safety of their children whilst attending football related activities at the new facility.

Cllr Pat Bosley, the Council’s Cabinet Member for the Big Community Fund, says:
It is anticipated that Chipstead FC will manage on-going maintenance.

Residents, groups and local people who would like to bid for a share of the Big Community Fund should contact their local District Councillor. Their contact details are available at www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/councillors or by calling 01732 227000.

This is the latest grant from the Big Community Fund which was processed in September.
