Brighter future for Riverhead

  1. District Councillor Kim Bayley has secured £1,500 from the Big Community Fund to improve street lighting in Riverhead.

Riverhead Parish Council own and maintain 94 streetlights in the village.

However, around 10 are coming to the end of their lives and need replacing. Some of the poles are severely rusted. Others use mercury bulbs, which use much more power than modern lighting, and they can damage the environment should they break.

The District Council’s £1,500 Big Community Fund grant will help towards a replacement street lighting programme for poles and bulbs costing £6,200.

Once replaced, the new lights will use significantly less electricity than the current lights saving Riverhead Parish Council money while reducing the carbon emissions that contribute to the problem of Global Warming.

Cllr Roddy Hogarth, the Council’s Cabinet Member for the Big Community Fund scheme, says:
Residents, groups and local organisations who would like to bid for a share of the Big Community Fund should contact their local District Councillor.
