Fraudsters are phoning people as part of a bank card scam Police are warning people to be vigilant following a bank card scam where fraudsters have targeted three elderly people in the Sevenoaks area this afternoon (12 January). Conmen have been phoning elderly or vulnerable people pretending to be from their bank and giving them limited personal information such as their address, to make the call seem genuine. Often they go on to claim that their bank card has been used fraudulently, ask for the card’s PIN number so the new card can be set up with it and then say a new card will be dispatched by courier. The old card is then picked up by a man posing as a courier. Following this, large sums of money are withdrawn from the victim’s bank account, using both the card and PIN number obtained by the conmen.
