Supporting local businesses – a Sevenoaks Pound to spend here?

    Transition Town Sevenoaks event
Thursday 18 March 5.30-7pm in the Plaza room at the Stag, Sevenoaks. Free entry.

Discussion of how the community can support local businesses. For instance, a directory of local food producers?

Other towns have successfully introduced their own currency, e.g. the Lewes Pound. It is perfectly legal to do this. The idea is that the currency – maybe a Sevenoaks Pound? – can only be spent in participating local shops and other businesses. So all the money stays and circulates within the local economy, instead of flowing out to elsewhere in the country or abroad.

Is there interest in doing this in Sevenoaks? It could extend beyond the town into other parts of the district.
