Home » News Supported Housing “West Kent Mind has been contracted for a number of years by Shaw Trust and Kent County Council to provide housing related support services for tenants in two houses in Sevenoaks, properties owned by Southern Housing. The West Kent Mind housing team support residents with the aim of moving them on to independent living within 2-3 years. This contract comes to an end on 31 July 2023, and we have taken the difficult decision not to enter into a new contract. Like many charities, we are feeling the significant impact of operating in a very challenging economic climate. A decrease in the number of referrals into the houses has left empty rooms in both properties without rental income, at a cost to West Kent Mind. In addition, the cost of living crisis has meant that the costs of delivering the service have escalated substantially, to a point where the charity is unable to continue to deliver the service. There is also increased clinical risk with some residents requiring more support than we are able to provide under the terms of the contract. We have supported the residents through extremely challenging times in the last few years and their mental health and wellbeing is of paramount importance to us. We are working closely with all agencies to move residents into alternative housing that will suit and support their individual needs. We would like to thank all the housing team, who have supported residents with such care and compassion over the years, and also thank the residents for sharing their mental health journey with us.” Stevie Rice, CEO July 2023 The post Supported Housing appeared first on West Kent Mind.
