LAST chance to pre-buy tickets for Otford Scout Group’s annual bonfire and firework party on Saturday at the Chalk Pit, adjacent to the station. Gates open 5.30 for a 6pm start. Tickets cost £15 per family of 2 adults and 2 children if bought beforehand or £18 if bought on the night or £5 per individual. Children under 5 years admitted free. Refreshments will be available including a BBQ and drinks. Tickets can be bought from any of the Pack Leaders, from Yvonne’s in Telston Lane and from Otford Dry Cleaners on The Parade, Sevenoaks Road.

THE Archbishop's Palace Conservation Trust (Charity registration number 1173486) has been set up with the aim of acquiring the Otford Palace site and buildings, and creating a visitor centre that will not only present the history of the Palace and its Tudor history, but also act as an interpretation centre and springboard for the Darent Valley. The Trust believes that this would be the best use of this iconic monument.
It will be a major project and the costs will exceed £1.5M over several years. The Trust has submitted their outline proposal to Sevenoaks District Council which will be considered in the next few months and spoken to Historic England, the Heritage Lottery Fund and other potential funding agencies, and have their provisional support. However, the first hurdle is to convince Sevenoaks District Council that this is clearly the best future for the Archbishop's Palace.
The Trust is asking for your support in persuading Sevenoaks District Council that they should transfer the land and buildings to the Archbishop's Palace Conservation Trust, either for a nominal sum or on a long lease, that will enable their vision for the benefit of the residents of Otford, of the Darent Valley and the many visitors to the area. Please write to either Peter Fleming, Leader of the Council or Michelle Lowe (at Sevenoaks District Council, Council Offices, Argyle Rd, Sevenoaks TN13 1HG or email cllr.fleming@sevenoaks.gov.uk; cllr.lowe@sevenoaks.gov.uk). If you have any questions contact secretary@otfordpalace.org or visit their website www.otfordpalace.org.
