    OTFORD Folk Dance Club meet tonight, Thursday August 29, in Walthamstow Hall Junior School with Sean Goddard and John Porloch calling. All kinds of mixed folk dances are on offer and all are welcome. Whether you have little or no knowledge, the caller will give help and your fellow dancers will also assist you. The emphasis is on friendly enjoyment rather than perfection If you would like more information ring Mary Butson, 01732 458356.

    SHOREHAM Recreation Ground is the venue of the next Sevenoaks District Council Play Day on Tuesday July 30. Look at their website for full details

    KENT Dahlia Society will be holding their Annual Show between 2 and 4pm on Sunday September 1 in the Memorial Hall. There will be a display of exhibition blooms, which will be available to purchase at the end of the show, refreshments and a Tombola. Entrance to the show is free.

    WOULD you like to join Otford Lunch Club, for older residents, which takes place from 11.45 every Thursday in the village Memorial Hall, High Street? The Club is a welcoming place for local residents to go along and socialise with friends, old and news. It is run by a dedicated teams of volunteers and members enjoy a welcoming cup of coffee or tea followed by a hot nutritious two course meal each week, except August this year, and it may be possible to arrange transport.     SUMMER Reading Challenge, involving children aged 4 to 11 years, runs until Saturday September 14. The 2019 Challenge is called ‘Space Chase’ and has ben inspired by the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Each child has to read 6 books during the holidays, collecting stickers and other incentive along the way and finishes by getting a medal and a Certificate. Visit the Library for full details.

    OTFORD Parish Council meet on the 2nd Monday of the month in the Club Room of the Memorial Hall. For those interested in all the activities of OPC the Minutes of the meetings are available in the Library and the Minutes, Agendas and Newsletters can be obtained via the web www.otfordpckentparishes.gov.uk.

    MEMBERS of St Bartholomew’s church will be participating in The Friends of Kent Churches Bike and Hike being held between 10am and 6pm on Saturday September 14 and potential sponsors will be most welcome. They are also looking to make up a rota of people to welcome visiting cyclists and walkers to sign them in. If you can spare an hour or two please contact the Church Office 01959 523185. The money raised is divided between Friends of Kent Churches and our parish.

    FRIENDS of the Earth, Sevenoaks Branch, meet on the borders of Otford and Kemsing at 8pm on the third Tuesday of each month. If you are interested in joining them contact John on 01959 524906 for more information.

    FOR any girls or volunteers interested in joining Girlguiding Otford there is a website to register your interest, log onto www.girlguiding.org.uk/interested or call 0800 1 69 59 01. They especially need female adult volunteers, over 18, who would be interested in helping at their Guide unit meetings.

    OTFORD Evangelical Church offer coffee and chat between 2 and 4pm each Tuesday afternoon in August and invite all those who would welcome an opportunity to meet with other local people in a relaxed and friendly environment.
