  1. Cllr Dee Morris, the Council’s new Chairman, is looking forward to her time in office as the District gears up for the one of the biggest and most important periods in its 38 year history.

Sevenoaks District is host to the London 2012 Paralympic games with cycling at Brands Hatch and the Olympic Torch Relay and, of course, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

Cllr Morris has said she is looking forward to channelling her enthusiasm into helping the District benefit from the positive events taking place in the coming months. Cllr Morris says:
The Paralympic legacy will not only lead to a raised profile for Sevenoaks District but also for cycling in the area. The Council is working with the public to improve cycle routes, increase cycle facilities, promote safe cycling and introducing projects such as bike recycling scheme, swap shop and maintenance workshops.

Cllr Morris was first elected to Sevenoaks District Council in 2003 to represent the Hextable ward. She is also a parish councillor and a magistrate as well as involved in a number of local organisations. She has lived in Hextable with her husband Ray since 1997 and the couple have been married for 35 years. Ray runs garages in Bexley while Dee recently sold her furniture import company to concentrate on their commercial property development company. Their son, Will, owns an IT company in Reading while their daughter, Victoria, began her career in Cambridge Footlights and now writes as well as acts.

Securing the role of Chairman means Cllr Morris will be the Council’s principal ambassador representing the Council and residents at various local and regional events as well as supporting charities and local organisations.

Cllr Morris was previously the Vice–Chairman and takes over the reins from Cllr Bob Orridge. She was elected as Chairman at yesterday’s meeting of the Council (15 May 2012).

Cllr Alan Pett, who represents Ash and New Ash Green ward, was also elected as the District Council’s Vice-Chairman.
