Nominations are now open for Kent’s annual wellbeing awards.

The Kent Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards is an event to showcase the people, organisations and initiatives that help us cope with life.

Nominations could be linked to an act of kindness from a neighbour who supported you in lockdown, a community group that supported your wellbeing or an organisation that provided mental health support for a family member. This year the judging panel is particularly interested in initiatives that support wellbeing in the workplace, schools focused on student mental health, and charities delivering mental health services.

Backed by a range of organisations including Kent County Council and Medway Council, this is the second year of the awards, which are hosted by Simon Dolby of South Kent Mind.

This week the judging panel officially launched the nomination drive at an event staged at the offices of the Kent Community Foundation.

Simon Dolby said: “Mental health and wellbeing is a hot topic and it is right that we shine a spotlight on the people, organisations and initiatives making a difference within our school, workplace or community.

Mr Dolby said for schools the panel was keen to have nominations focusing on awareness initiatives that promote variations of the Be Kind message as well as:

    • Initiatives that have brought on to campus external charities or professional providers to support
      student mental health.
    • Measures to support staff wellbeing.
    • School Council or student-led initiatives promoting positive mental health messaging.
    • Mental health or wellbeing initiatives or messaging that includes or involves parents.

Tim Woodhouse of Kent County Council said: “The first year of these awards did a great job on shining the light on so many amazing people doing incredible things to support individuals and communities across the county. I’m sure that this year will be just as inspirational and will continue to help reduce the stigma around mental illness”.

Anne Menzel of Stagecoach South East have been named as the Headline Partner for the event. Anne said: “Stagecoach is proud to support these awards because mental health affects all of us every day whether it be a colleague, passenger or family member. It’s important to talk about mental health and these awards will help prompt those positive conversations.”

Joining Stagecoach, KCC and Medway Council on the judging panel are Loch Associates, the National Lottery Community Fund, Ashford International Hotel, Cactus Graphics, Couture Cakes, Independent Music Productions, West Kent Mind and Mid Kent Mind.
