  1. We are looking for a Housing Standards Officer to work within the Private Sector Housing Team in implementing the council’s strategy in respect of ethnically defined Gypsies and Travellers. Your main duties will include taking the lead in the management of the council’s gypsy/traveller site in Edenbridge, dealing with unauthorised encampments, licensing of mobile homes, working with other related agencies and partners in delivering services to Travellers and improving outcomes. The post also offers the opportunity to help deliver wider Housing related duties and enforcement work.

You should have recent “hands on” experience of enforcement duties, ideally in a public service or similar environment. You must be prepared to work unsociable hours if required and to take part in the out of hours emergency service, for which an additional payment will be made.

Experience in the appropriate use of enforcement powers is desirable, as is the ability and willingness to respond at short notice to non-routine matters. Excellent communication and IT skills are essential, as well as the ability to prioritise, organise and manage your caseload with minimal supervision. You must hold a full driving licence. The post will attract an essential user car allowance.

Applicants must have a sound working knowledge of IT and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications. Experience of using Uni-form/Renovator and IDOX or similar software is desirable.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Daniel Shaw, Private Sector Housing Manager on 01732 227155.
