  1. A New Ash Green Fun Day and the Shoreham Heavy Horse Show are set to provide the latest opportunities for local people to have a free health check.

The free New Ash Green Fun Day features a packed-out day of stilt walkers, balloon modellers, dance lessons and more, with a pirate-themed fancy dress competition sure to bring out some inventive costumes.

Running from 10am on Saturday 31 August in New Ash Green Shopping Centre, the fun day will run into the evening with Open Mic performances giving residents the opportunity to support their local shopping centre.

The Shoreham Heavy Horse Show will provide family fun with the centrepiece heavy horse demonstrations, as well as children’s activities and vintage car and tractor displays. Held on Sunday 1 September, entrance costs £8 for adults, £6 for senior citizens and £4 for children.

Sevenoaks District Council will be on hand at both events to provide free health checks, healthy food demonstrations and advice. You can also cycle your way to making a fruit smoothie with the Council’s popular Smoothie Bike.

The free health checks are eligible to anyone aged 40 to 74 who has not had a health check in the last five years or has already been diagnosed with an existing health condition.

The health checks and advice are being organised by Sevenoaks District Council and funded by the Kent County Council Public Health Team.

Cllr Roddy Hogarth, the Council’s Cabinet Member for health, says:
More information about the Shoreham Heavy Horse Show is available at www.lionsclub-sevenoaks.co.uk/page8.html, and for further information about the Council’s health services at these events telephone 01732 227000.
