Armstrong Kent LLP has announced its second round of public consultation on the future of Fort Halstead. On Friday 13th and Saturday 14th July local people are invited to come along to a community planning weekend where they will have the opportunity to take part in workshops and hands-on planning groups to help develop a vision for the site’s future following Dstl’s departure by 2017.

The community planning weekend follows the public exhibitions in May that were attended by over 350 people. The exhibitions gave the local community an opportunity to highlight issues that were most important to them in securing a future for Fort Halstead.

Stephen Roberts, spokesperson for Armstrong Kent LLP, said:

The feedback from the exhibitions showed broad support from respondents for suggestions that areas of the site could be opened up for public access and the possible introduction of a centre to celebrate Fort Halstead’s heritage. It also showed that key issues are preserving the character of the area and the local transport network. Balancing the mix of future uses at Fort Halstead is fundamental to preserving jobs and responding to the community’s views on the scale of any future housing at the site.

The community planning weekend will examine these and other issues in more detail to plan positively for Fort Halstead’s future. It will be followed by a feedback session later in the summer where the masterplanners for the site, John Thompson & Partners, will present an illustrated vision for Fort Halstead based on the outcomes of the community planning weekend.

The community planning weekend will take place at the Fort Halstead Staff Canteen, Crow Drive, Sevenoaks, Kent TN14 on:
    Friday 13th July 2pm-8pm
    Saturday 14th July 11am-4pm

All are welcome to attend and people can drop in at a convenient time or stay for the whole event if they are able to.

The vision for the site will inform Armstrong Kent LLP as it drafts a development brief for Fort Halstead, which will be presented to the community in the autumn. The development brief will act as a guide for future planning applications for the site.

Further information about the community planning weekend can be found at www.forthalstead.com or by calling 0800 0194 576.
