Former Formula 1 champion Damon Hill is getting back behind the wheel again to race – and he has chosen the famed Kent track Brands Hatch for his comeback.

Hill took the championship in 1996 and was cheated out of another two years previously when arch rival Michael Schumacher took him out of the final race of the season leaving the German to lift the accolade.

The son of Grand Prix legend Graham Hill, is making his racing comeback on May 19 in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup event, which is supporting the British round of the DTM championship. Schumacher’s brother Ralf is also racing.

Hill finally hung up his racing wheel in 1999, but was tempted back when he discovered he would be joining other stars like Mark Blundell, Perry McCarthy, Julian Bailey, Martin Donnelly and David Brabham.

Most of them are member of the so-called Rat Pack – they rose to stardom during the 80s via the ranks of Formula Ford, Formula Three, Formula 3000 and into Formula One.

The group has remained close friends and are racing for their own personal glory, and to also raise money for Hill’s charity, HALOW.

It is dedicated to creating opportunities and supporting young people with a learning disability so that they are able to live independently. The charity is named after five young people, one of them being Oliver Hill, Damon’s eldest son.

    Hill said:
The get together was instigated by McCarthy, who said:
