Sevenoaks Town Council together with the Town Partnership, Stag Community Arts Centre and the Chamber of Commerce is once again doing all it can to encourage Christmas Shoppers to come to the town to spend locally both on the night of the Switch On and over the 2012 Christmas Season!

Following two most successful years of Christmas Lights in Sevenoaks High Street with an estimated presence of an estimated 4500 people in 2010 and 7000 people in 2011 we are requesting a small donation to go towards the overall Christmas lights scheme.

Your gift of financial support will go towards:
    • Providing and maintaining the lights and enabling them being turned on daily over the Christmas period. This year the Sevenoaks residents and businesses have asked that the lights remain on for an extra hour until midnight!
    • Providing entertainment for everyone on of 30 November 2012 for a memorable family night out.
As well as your financial support, we would like and most welcome you all to remain open offering your wares and services in your premises or on stalls located outside the entrances to your shop/business and/or eateries thereby physically taking part in the Christmas cheer of the evening.
In addition offers of volunteer stewards would be gratefully accepted.

Sevenoaks Town Council commits £18,500 each year towards, erection, dismantling, upgrading lights, in accordance with to EU requirements, repairs and electricity. Local Authorities, as with local businesses are under considerable economic pressure, and although costs increase, Sevenoaks Town Council is not able to increase its budget.

Changes to the regulations for road closures have increased the cost and the need for more resources including more stewards. Specsavers have generously donated £1,250 toward the Christmas lights budget to assist with this, and three volunteer stewards.

We realise that the economic climate remains difficult but with a HUGE JOINT TEAM EFFORT we hope the 2012 Christmas lighting will be even more successful than in the past. As in previous years a list of sponsors will be published in the local press, Sevenoaks Chronicle, during December. The lights will be switched on at 7.00 pm by the Mayor, Councillor Richard Parry, and Pantomime cast of Aladdin.

Watch the local press for more details and please help to light up Sevenoaks this Christmas as never seen before!

Please see the return slip on the reverse of the attachment for donation and support and let us know how long you intend to stay open on the evening of Friday 30th November 2012 and how much you would like to pledge. In the past we have requested £45, but any amount would indeed be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!
    Yours sincerely

    Cllr Arnold Sevenoaks Town partnership
